The role of Apprentice Administrator

What is an Apprenticeship?

The purpose of an Apprenticeship is to introduce young people into a trainee role where through a combination of on and off the job training, they can develop knowledge and skills in their chosen career.

The NVQ gained while on an Apprenticeship ensures that the apprentice puts the skills and knowledge into practice in the working environment demonstrating their competence and development within a particular industry.

Castlerock Recruitment Group’s Allied Health branch supplies healthcare staff including Physiotherapists, Remedial Instructors, Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians and Occupational Therapists to the Ministry of Defence, NHS and private sectors.

Apprentice Administrator Emma Kaye is working towards NVQ Level 2 in Business Administration. Here she explains her role within the Allied Health recruitment industry.

What does the role of Apprentice Recruitment Administrator involve?

I am working alongside three Recruitment Consultants and a Branch Administrator. My role as an Apprentice Administrator within Castlerock Recruitment Group involves dealing with incoming timesheets ensuring that they are all sent to the payroll department for processing, scanning the timesheets into the company system and attaching them to an email. Once these tasks are completed I then distribute them to the Recruitment Consultants.

I am responsible for collating all registration documents and sending out registration packs to healthcare Locums interested in work either by post or email and making identification badges for all Locums who are about to commence employment.

My other duties as an Apprentice Recruitment Administrator include sending emails, photocopying documents and organising Locums documentation within their files.I liaise with healthcare Locums via telephone to chase their timesheet or to enquire if the registration pack that I sent out to them was received. I am also in charge of the postal duties of incoming and outgoing mail and ensure that it is distributed to the correct members of staff.

What new skills have you gained from your Apprenticeship with Castlerock Recruitment Group?

I have learnt how to use Castlerock Recruitment Group’s in-house recruitment system Webroster to input data, log information and make general notes. Since working as an Apprentice in a healthcare recruitment office environment I have gained new skills including improving my telephone manner, how to prepare formal letters / emails, organising files and dealing with paper work correctly. I have also developed new IT skills including how to work with spreadsheets and improved my general typing.

Would you recommend an Apprenticeship to others who are interested in the healthcare recruitment industry?

I think an Apprenticeship is a really good opportunity for people to achieve new skills and obtain a qualification at the same time. Whilst on an Apprenticeship with Castlerock Recruitment Group you can develop new skills, widen your opportunities and gain valuable experience within the healthcare recruitment industry.

Castlerock Recruitment group currently employ numerous Apprentices throughout the company working within the Recruitment, HR, Finance and Healthcare teams giving us the opportunity to grow our own skilled workforce for the future.
