Environmental Management Policy

Environmental Management Policy

Castlerock Recruitment Group believes that environmental issues such as pollution, waste management, energy and water conservation, transport issues and the recycling of resources, should be important items on the agenda of the modern employer, and are committed to the prevention of pollution and continual improvement of its environmental management system and practices.

We understand and believe that we have a duty to act and comply in a responsible, sustainable and ethical manner, and that the aim of sustainable development is to maintain the quality of the environment both now and for generations to come, to include:

a) Conservation of energy, wood, paper and water;
b) Prevention of pollution, especially pollution by ozone depleting substances, vehicle emissions, asbestos, hazardous substances, batteries, solvents and paints, biodegradables and litter;
c) The procurement of supplies and resources from renewable or environmentally friendly sources;
d) Responsible waste management;
e) Achievement and maintenance of BS EN ISO 14001 (Environmental Management Standards) as appropriate to the nature, scale and environmental impacts of our organisation and the services we provide.

In order to improve our environmental management processes and to ensure that all our activities and developments are as sustainable as possible, we will:

a) Adopt and implement an environmental and sustainable development policy which will be agreed with all members of staff and which will comply with legal and regulatory requirements;
b) Develop a recycling system in collaboration with local authorities, other local businesses and waste disposal organisations, particularly in regard to materials such as paper, cans, glass, plastic, cardboard and other packaging;
c) Recycle printer ink cartridges and consumables wherever possible;
d) Dispose of all electrical equipment according to the Directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (the WEEE Directive), such as computer equipment and mobile phones.
e) Use energy efficient and low power equipment wherever possible;
f) Ensure that all workplace buildings, pipes and lofts are properly insulated and maintained in such a way as to be as energy efficient as possible;
g) Conserve power and water by maintaining pneumatic water taps, sensor lights, and equipment timers throughout our workplace, and by purchasing electrical equipment with power saving/sleep functions;
h) Communicate with and encourage staff to: turn off non-essential lights and power sources when not in use, keep windows and doors closed when using heating, report and repair malfunctioning thermostats on radiators and dripping taps immediately, and only use as much water as is necessary;
i) Reduce the harmful effects of car exhausts and congestion by maintaining vehicles in good condition, cutting back on unnecessary journeys and utilising alternative means of transport, such as commuting by train, wherever possible;
j) Ensure that dangerous substances are not used within the organisation;
k) Ensure that all organisations with whom the organisation contracts with and purchases from are asked if they too have similar policies, and gradually move our systems of procurement to more environmentally friendly sources;
l) Conduct regular audits of processes and wastes to identify areas where we can commit to long term waste reduction and reduce waste levels by reusing materials;
m) Commit to ensure continuous improvement programmes are identified and implemented across all business functions;
n) Promote this policy and environmentally sound practices to all staff employed by the organisation, through handbooks, training and development programmes, induction programmes, supervision and ongoing appraisals, staff meetings, intranet, email and newsletters.

All staff will be required to read the organisation's policies on environmental management and environmental behaviour as part of their induction process, and Castlerock Recruitment Group will further ensure that its management review processes include the opportunity for setting and reviewing the organisation's environmental objectives and progress with improvement plans.
